Directions
to Chileno Valley
From San
Francisco
Coming from
San Francisco, go over the Golden Gate Bridge and
continue going north on 101 until you get to
Petaluma. Take the first off ramp. This will be
Petaluma Blvd. South, actually the old highway. Go
on into the center of town. On your left, you will
see Walnut Park. Go a few blocks further to Western
Avenue. Turn left. This will take you out of town.
From Petaluma Blvd., you will be traveling 1.9
miles before you need to make another turn. While
on Western Ave., be looking for 2 signs on your
right. They will say, "Walker Creek Ranch" and
"Helen Putnam Park". The signs will direct you to
your left. Turn left. This will be Chileno Valley
Road, and is marked with a small street sign as
well.
Travel on
Chileno Valley Road for 3.8 miles until you pass
the Marin County line sign. After a second small
bridge, you will see a road to your right. It is
also named Chileno Valley Road. Turn right onto
Chileno Valley Road . If you miss the turn, you
will begin going up a steep hill, Wilson Hill,
which will indicate that you have gone too far.
From the
intersection of Chileno Valley Road and Chileno
Valley Road, you will go 5.1 miles before coming to
the Chileno Valley Ranch and Bed and Breakfast.
Before getting to our ranch, you will pass a one
room school house on your left and a natural lake
on your right. We are not too far past the lake;
just a few ranches. You will most probably
recognize our ranch from a distance, as you round a
corner near our adjacent neighbor. The entrance to
the ranch will be on your left and the address
number, 5105, will be on the mailbox in large
letters. A row of cypress trees frames the house to
the northwest.
Directions
from Sacramento
From
Sacramento, take highway 80 to 37. 37 goes across
the delta to 101, but you may take a short cut by
heading north on Lakeville Highway. Lakeville
Highway dovetails into 116, and then goes on into
Petaluma. When in Petaluma, go left at "D" Street.
There is an old train station at the corner of "D"
and Lakeville. You will go over the bridge and then
run into the main street in town, Petaluma Blvd.
Turn right, proceed north on Petaluma Blvd. a few
blocks, then turn left on Western Ave. Western will
take you out of town. Drive 1.9 miles from the
center of town, and on your right you will see 2
signs, both pointing to your left. The first sign
will say "Walker Creek Ranch". The second will say
"Helen Putnam Park. Both point to Chileno Valley
Road. Turn left on Chileno Valley Road.
Drive along
Chileno Valley Road for 3.8 miles. You will pass
the Marin County Line sign, go over the second
bridge, and then see a road going off to your
right. This is also Chileno Valley Road, but it is
a definite right turn. If you miss the turn, the
road becomes Wilson Hill Road. If you find yourself
going up a big hill, you have gone too
far!
Ok, now you
have turned right onto Chileno Valley Road from
Chileno Valley Road! It's confusing, isn't it?
Drive past a one room schoolhouse. Keep driving and
soon there will be only a few large ranches. You
will need to drive 5.1 miles to reach the Chileno
Valley Ranch and Bed and Breakfast. You will come
around a corner and see the ranch from a distance.
It will be on your left. The address, 5105 Chileno
Valley Road, will be on a large mailbox adjacent to
our driveway. Turn left and come on in!
From
Point Reyes Station
From Point
Reyes Station, drive north on Highway 1 for a short
distance, then turn right on Petaluma- Point Reyes
Road. Follow this road for about 3 miles, go over a
bridge covered with colorful inscriptions, and turn
to your left. You will be following this road for
about 5 miles. You will pass Nicasio Reservoir on
your right, a road to Nicasio on your right, then
you will go through a narrow valley. When you come
out in the clear, you will pass a firehouse and The
Cheese Factory on your left, a road to Novato on
your right, and then you will come to Hicks Valley
Road on your left.
Turn left
on Hicks Valley Road. You will see a one room
school house , Lincoln School, on your left, and a
large beautiful ranch, where Sally's mother grew
up, on your right. Drive on for a while, and enter
a narrow valley. You will go up over a small hill
and come down upon a yellow ranch. Soon after this,
you will see that the road forks. Take the fork to
your right. It is Wilson Hill Road. This will be a
steep road to the top of Wilson Hill, affording you
a rather spectacular view from the crest. Keep
going on down the hill into a valley. The road will
follow a stream on your right. The first road you
come to, other than roads to private ranches, will
be Chileno Valley Road. It will go off to your
left.
Turn left
onto Chileno Valley Road, and drive 5.1 miles to
5105 Chileno Valley Road. We will be on your left.
You will most probably recognize the house from a
distance, as you round a curve just past our
immediate neighbor.
