Directions to Chileno Valley

From San Francisco

Coming from San Francisco, go over the Golden Gate Bridge and continue going north on 101 until you get to Petaluma. Take the first off ramp. This will be Petaluma Blvd. South, actually the old highway. Go on into the center of town. On your left, you will see Walnut Park. Go a few blocks further to Western Avenue. Turn left. This will take you out of town. From Petaluma Blvd., you will be traveling 1.9 miles before you need to make another turn. While on Western Ave., be looking for 2 signs on your right. They will say, "Walker Creek Ranch" and "Helen Putnam Park". The signs will direct you to your left. Turn left. This will be Chileno Valley Road, and is marked with a small street sign as well.

Travel on Chileno Valley Road for 3.8 miles until you pass the Marin County line sign. After a second small bridge, you will see a road to your right. It is also named Chileno Valley Road. Turn right onto Chileno Valley Road . If you miss the turn, you will begin going up a steep hill, Wilson Hill, which will indicate that you have gone too far.

From the intersection of Chileno Valley Road and Chileno Valley Road, you will go 5.1 miles before coming to the Chileno Valley Ranch and Bed and Breakfast. Before getting to our ranch, you will pass a one room school house on your left and a natural lake on your right. We are not too far past the lake; just a few ranches. You will most probably recognize our ranch from a distance, as you round a corner near our adjacent neighbor. The entrance to the ranch will be on your left and the address number, 5105, will be on the mailbox in large letters. A row of cypress trees frames the house to the northwest.

Directions from Sacramento

From Sacramento, take highway 80 to 37. 37 goes across the delta to 101, but you may take a short cut by heading north on Lakeville Highway. Lakeville Highway dovetails into 116, and then goes on into Petaluma. When in Petaluma, go left at "D" Street. There is an old train station at the corner of "D" and Lakeville. You will go over the bridge and then run into the main street in town, Petaluma Blvd. Turn right, proceed north on Petaluma Blvd. a few blocks, then turn left on Western Ave. Western will take you out of town. Drive 1.9 miles from the center of town, and on your right you will see 2 signs, both pointing to your left. The first sign will say "Walker Creek Ranch". The second will say "Helen Putnam Park. Both point to Chileno Valley Road. Turn left on Chileno Valley Road.

Drive along Chileno Valley Road for 3.8 miles. You will pass the Marin County Line sign, go over the second bridge, and then see a road going off to your right. This is also Chileno Valley Road, but it is a definite right turn. If you miss the turn, the road becomes Wilson Hill Road. If you find yourself going up a big hill, you have gone too far!

Ok, now you have turned right onto Chileno Valley Road from Chileno Valley Road! It's confusing, isn't it? Drive past a one room schoolhouse. Keep driving and soon there will be only a few large ranches. You will need to drive 5.1 miles to reach the Chileno Valley Ranch and Bed and Breakfast. You will come around a corner and see the ranch from a distance. It will be on your left. The address, 5105 Chileno Valley Road, will be on a large mailbox adjacent to our driveway. Turn left and come on in!

From Point Reyes Station

From Point Reyes Station, drive north on Highway 1 for a short distance, then turn right on Petaluma- Point Reyes Road. Follow this road for about 3 miles, go over a bridge covered with colorful inscriptions, and turn to your left. You will be following this road for about 5 miles. You will pass Nicasio Reservoir on your right, a road to Nicasio on your right, then you will go through a narrow valley. When you come out in the clear, you will pass a firehouse and The Cheese Factory on your left, a road to Novato on your right, and then you will come to Hicks Valley Road on your left.

Turn left on Hicks Valley Road. You will see a one room school house , Lincoln School, on your left, and a large beautiful ranch, where Sally's mother grew up, on your right. Drive on for a while, and enter a narrow valley. You will go up over a small hill and come down upon a yellow ranch. Soon after this, you will see that the road forks. Take the fork to your right. It is Wilson Hill Road. This will be a steep road to the top of Wilson Hill, affording you a rather spectacular view from the crest. Keep going on down the hill into a valley. The road will follow a stream on your right. The first road you come to, other than roads to private ranches, will be Chileno Valley Road. It will go off to your left.

Turn left onto Chileno Valley Road, and drive 5.1 miles to 5105 Chileno Valley Road. We will be on your left. You will most probably recognize the house from a distance, as you round a curve just past our immediate neighbor.
