The Garden Suite is
comprised of three private rooms, the sitting room,
a bedroom and a bathroom. Located on the bottom
floor, the suite may be accessed through the old
front door, and therefore affords a more private
entry. There is only one step to navigate to enter
the house.
The sitting room is
entered first, affording an intimate view of the
front garden through the large bay windows to the
left. A wood burning marble and Honduran Mahogany
fireplace affords cozy warmth in the cool season.
Matching upholstered Victorian loveseats face each
other across a marble topped coffee table, while a
rare rose-colored marble-topped French commode
stands ready to hold cocktails and canapé's.
An Eastlake organ and 2 upholstered fruitwood
chairs complete the furniture in the room, while a
small marble-topped Victorian table holds a tall
crystal vase of flowers in the bay window. All the
furniture in the suite is circa 1900s.
The bedroom is entered
through two large sliding four-panel, raised-panel
doors between the sitting room and the bedroom.
These doors, the two large bay windows and the
11-foot ceilings have the effect of filling the
suite with light. The colors of the room are warm
colors; soft golds , oranges and pinks.
The bedroom is dominated
by a queen sized four poster pineapple mahogany
bed, but the mid-1800s mahogany armoire and the
mirrored eastlake bureau complete for the
antique-lover's attention.
According to Cousin
Emeline, who grew up in the house in the early 20th
Century, the downstairs bedroom was always the
parent's bedroom.
The floors of the Garden
Room are made from 1 X 5 T and G fir, and are the
original restored floors.
The adjoining bathroom has
a tub /shower combination, extensive tile work,
Portrait Kohler sink and toilet, and antique light
fixtures and mirror.
All the rooms in the house
have antique light fixtures, Victorian Medallions
and brackets, antique hardware and doors and large
bay windows.
