Upon opening the eight foot tall Eastlake entry doors, one sees the main staircase across a rather large entry hall. The main staircase is a combination of old and new parts, and is made of Honduran Mahogany, walnut and cherry wood. It is very beautiful and striking, and most visitors remark upon it at once.

There is an interesting story about how it was made.

When Sally was tearing out the lathe and plaster walls in the old part of the house in 1995,, a neighbor appeared looking for a missing cow. Sally responded that she had not seen the cow, but would the lady like to see the house? The lady with the missing cow said, yes she would, so Sally led her in through the old front door. Directly inside the old front door is the old staircase, which Sally had been trying to replicate for the new stairs in the main entry hall. Anyone who has ever looked for old balusters, a newel post and handrail knows this is a daunting task in and of itself, let alone with the added complication of trying to match an existing staircase. At any rate, the lady with the missing cow entered the old front door, saw the old staircase, and said, "Oh, I have one of these in my barn!" Whereupon Sally said, Well, lets go see it!" So, the result was that the staircase that the lady had in her bard did indeed match, Sally bought it for a modest sum, and the parts were worked into the new staircase with much artistry and skill by the talented and gracious Joe Humphries, which is another story entirely.
